For over 18 years as executive director of United Way of Comal County, I have been moved daily by the often-desperate needs related to me by those agencies we fund.
A single mother struggling to make ends meet and heart broken when her children pleaded “We’re hungry, mom.”
A hard-working people who lose their medical insurance when they are too sick to work in the profession they loved.
A young couple’s baby was born with a disability and desperate to find resources to help them cope.
These are just a handful of the thousands of sad scenarios addressed daily by over 30 local nonprofit organizations United Way of Comal County supports annually.
Since our founding by the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce 80 years ago, our mission has been to alleviate suffering by connecting those in need with the services that can help them – and to do so in the most effective, meaningful way possible.
Money given to United Way of Comal County stays right here at home and is granted to vetted local organizations with proven track records, audited finances and accountable outcomes for good.
Our rapid responses to crises and long-term investments in Comal County nonprofits are possible only because of the generosity of donors. Enclosed in today’s newspaper is an envelope, if you would like to support your United Way or scan the QR code located both on the envelope and in an ad in this edition.
Another way to give is by attending Gruene Music & Wine Fest on October 9 – 12 presented by Gruene Hall and KNBT 92.1FM. This is a chance to both donate and have lots of fun. All proceeds from this iconic 39-year annual event support United Way of Comal County.
